Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how ContextNews ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards personal information when you use our website and applications (the "Service"). By using the Service, you acknowledge the practices described here.
We collect: (1) account and profile data you provide (such as email address and display name); (2) authentication data when you sign in with third-party providers we support (e.g., Google or X (Twitter)), including identifiers and profile elements permitted by the provider and your settings; (3) content and activity data such as saved articles, custom contexts, notification preferences, discussion posts, and reactions; (4) technical and usage data such as IP address, device and browser type, app diagnostics, security logs, and approximate location derived from IP; and (5) communications you send when you contact support.
If you use premium AI summary features, article titles and text from your context may be processed on our behalf by OpenAI to generate briefings. We may use Microsoft Azure AI Translation to localize certain overview text when your UI language is not English. Do not submit information you are not permitted to share with these subprocessors.
We use cookies and similar technologies for session management, preferences, security, analytics, and—where required—consent through our consent management platform (Cookiebot). Advertising: unless you have an active paid subscription that includes an ad-free experience, we may display ads (for example via Google AdSense) subject to your consent choices and applicable law. Where we offer subscriptions, payments are processed by Stripe; payment card details are handled by Stripe under its terms and we do not store full card numbers on our servers.
We use information to provide and improve the Service, authenticate users, personalize content, deliver notifications, secure and debug the Service, comply with law, and communicate with you. We share information with service providers (hosting, database, email delivery, analytics, advertising, AI, and translation providers) that process data on our behalf under appropriate contractual safeguards. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and integrity.
Where we or our providers process data in countries other than your own, we rely on lawful mechanisms for international transfers as required by applicable data protection laws.
We retain information while your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations. Retention periods may vary by data category.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, or port your personal data, and to withdraw consent where processing is consent-based. See our Data deletion instructions for erasure requests. You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority where applicable.
The Service is not directed to children under the age where parental consent is required in their jurisdiction, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from such children.
We may update this Privacy Policy by posting a revised version. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy unless applicable law requires a different process. For privacy requests, use the contact or support options available in the Service, including the support email configured for your deployment when provided.
